I had the opportunity to interview one of our amazing tutors, Aimee, who is such a kind and enthusiastic person. We talked about why she decided to join Iridium, her favorite part about tutoring, remote learning, and much more. Thanks to Aimee for agreeing to do this and keep reading to learn more about her!

Michelle: Hi! Can you introduce yourself?

Aimee: Hi, my name is Aimee and I'm a junior at Algonquin Regional High School

Michelle: Why did you decide to volunteer at Iridium Tutoring?

Aimee: So over the summer and near the beginning of this school year, my peers in my classes were struggling with online school. Since high schoolers were struggling so much, younger elementary school students must also be struggling, so I wanted to help support their learning. And also, I really enjoy helping little kids because I find it fun to teach.

Michelle: What are your favorite subjects at school?

Aimee: I'm taking a music theory class right now, and it's definitely my favorite class. I also like English when we have discussions because they are fun. I liked algebra, but maybe not the other math classes.

Michelle: What would you say is your favorite part about tutoring in general?

Aimee: I'd say my favorite part is when students start understanding something, or when they're really interested in something. I was teaching this second-grader, about weather and snowstorms. When he finally understood the topic by making connections, he was really excited which made my happy as well.

Michelle: Yeah I agree that is a fun part of tutoring as well. Next up, do you prefer online/virtual or in-person schooling and why?

Aimee: I definitely prefer in-person schooling because I'm way more productive when I'm in school and I also focus better. I also enjoy seeing my friends. Although I don't always talk that much in class, I sometimes look forward to interacting with teachers.

Michelle: It's definitely harder to talk with people in your class virtually, especially during discussions. Where would you want to travel to? Obviously once the pandemic is over.

Aimee: I really want to go to China because my grandparents live there, and I was planning to visit them this summer, or last summer and then COVID happened so... I really wanna go to China and visit them.

Michelle: Last one, what is your favorite thing to do in your free time?

Aimee: Something I'm loving right now is browsing through videos on TikTok. Although I haven't consumed much media over the past few months, I have found myself spending a lot of time scrolling through TikTok. I also enjoyed reading Pride and Prejudice in my English class because there were some parts that were really funny and others that were dramatic. A pretty good read overall.

Michelle: I'll defi9nitely make sure to read that. Thank you for talking with me!

Aimee: No problem!
